To get on the Web you will have to link up with an Internet provider. Usually they charge you to get linked but now a lot of free access providers are also available- especially in Europe because unlike the US we have to pay per minute for phone calls. But that will change. There are many ways of linking to the Web: cable, DSL, wireless, satellite- you name it. The best known provider is America Online. They are also a portal, etailer and content provider. They are everything and they are everywhere. They even bought Netscape and made it disappear.
WHY INVEST?
More and more people will get online and somebody will pay for that. But with these free providers it might be less attractive to invest in access providers. Broadband access has a higher value so that is where the biggest opportunities would be. Think DSL and Cable. Forget Freeserve.
